Look your best in a photo session

Many folks ask what they can do to prepare for their photo session, because everyone wants to look their best on photo day.  So I've compiled a few things YOU can easily do to look your absolute best (and not be stressed) in photos.

1 week ahead (or more)

- Hair cuts - Don't wait any later than a week ahead to get your hair cut, or it will look like you JUST got your hair cut.
- Outfits - If you plan on coordinating outfits, or even if it's just you, plan and try on everything that you're wearing at least one week ahead.  That way, if you need a shirt or pair of jeans, you'll have time to get it all together before the session.

A few days ahead

- Spray Tan - They look great in photos, but don't get it RIGHT before a photo session.

- Good Eats - To make your skin look great for a photo session, integrate bananas and cucumbers into your diet as often as you can.  Bananas are not only great for your skin, bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier. Cucumbers illuminate the skin, keep your body hydrated and helps flush out toxins.

The night before

- Beauty Sleep - There's nothing more refreshing to your face than a good night's sleep, and it will show in your eyes the most if you haven't had enough rest.

- Salt - Avoid heavily salted foods and drinks.  Salt will cause you to retain water and look "puffy."

- Your Routine - Now isn't the time to change up your daily routine by adding a new moisturizer, or new hair product.  Stick to what your skin and hair are familiar with.  You could end up red, blotchy or greasy looking.

The day of the Session

- Water - Hydrate as much as you can, and your skin will look it's best.  Keep the coffee and soda to a minimum.

- Eat - Don't forget to eat something light before the session, and you won't feel tired halfway through. Bring a banana just in case.

- Relax - If you are stressed, it will show in the photos.  Take a moment to imagine what the photos might look like, and even practice this in the mirror:  Stand in front of your bathroom mirror. Now tense up every muscle that you can tense up - your neck and shoulders, back, legs and arms, and face.  Then slowly relax each muscle as much as you can, starting at the top of your head and work your way down to your feet.  Now smile.  It's so much easier to give a genuine smile when you are relaxed.

One more thing...
Don't be afraid to tell the photographer what you want, or what you're not comfortable with.  Tell her if you don't want your feet to show, or if you're self-conscious of your thighs.  Don't be afraid or nervous - after all, this is your time to shine!

The McCracken Family

The McCrackens are am energetic, funny, and entertaining bunch. I still smile when I think of all the fun we had during this photo session. Misty and I went to High School together (she was on the dance team, I was in band) and Dale's Uncle was my pastor, but I hadn't seen them in person in YEARS. It was so great catching up, and meeting their beautiful children. Dale and Misty are now Pastors at Davenport Church of God, so I really wanted to create a special family session for them, that embodied their lifestyle, love, personality, and sense of humor, (not to mention and obsession with Cinnamon Rolls).

Meet Breely - the youngest McCracken. She's 2 and full of energy and life!

This is Xander. I think at least 300 pictures are of him doing this like this.  He's hilarious and has more personality and charisma in his little finger than most adults I know.

The oldest is Noah.  He's soft spoken, but when he laughs, there's a sparkle in his eyes that tells me still waters run deep.
