The Poor Porker

I've been frequenting the Downtown Lakeland Farmer's Curb Market, not just for the beautiful handmade art, or the great deals on produce. The thing that keeps me (and many Lakelanders, for that matter) coming back every Saturday is the Poor Porker.

Robyn and Jarrid explain their humble beginnings on thepoorporker.com, but their Beignets are anything but humble.  Their namesake beignets are gently draped over a bed of powdered sugar, drizzled with maple syrup, and crumbled bacon crowns the top.  Are you drooling yet?

Each week, they come up with a new combination of toppings to pair with these fluffy fried bits of heaven.  Last week's special? Inspired by Girl Scout cookies, their Thin Mint Beignets were topped with chocolate syrup, crumbled thin mint cookies, a dash of powdered sugar and a sprig of fresh mint leaves.

As amazing as this all sounds, it gets better.  When Robyn's sunshine smile greets you, and Jarrid cracks a joke, they somehow make you feel like you're standing in their kitchen, hanging out, instead of surrounded by buildings and pavement.  Come once, and I promise you'll be hooked.
